Wroclaw Parks and Museums

Botanic Garden

ul. Henryka Sienkiewicza 23, Wroclaw
Tel: +48 71 322 59 57

Originally it was created as testing grounds for the faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Wroclaw back in 1811. Very shortly it has become open to the public and gained a lot of popularity ever since. Even though it is not big (approximately 7ha) people are willing to pay for the entry just to see many rare species of plants and flowers from all over the world. If you have a soul of an artist, you will be mesmerised by the reverie of colours and scents in there. Fantastic place for a romantic afternoon.

Grabiszynski Park

Located in the southern part of Wroclaw, Grabiszynski park is an interesting alternative to Poludniowy Park. It has been built on top of an old German cemetery with a few remaining tombstones here and there, lurking from within bushes. There is also a small designated area with graves of Italian soldiers that died during the First World War in the battle of Caporetto. In the southern part of the park, you will find a hill with a cemetery for unknown Polish soldiers killed in the Second World War. Summing up – a beautiful park, but not for people believing in zombies and ghosts, might seem too scary at night.

Park Poludniowy / Southern Park

Beautiful park located in the southern part of Wroclaw. It has been created in 1877 by Julius Schottländera – a rich German merchant, who donated it to the local authorities in return for a favour of connecting his neighbourhood to Wroclaw sewer system. Recently renewed has got a monument of the most famous Polish musician and composer – Fryderyk Chopin. There is a small lake in the middle with fountains and some recreational area for children with swings and see-saws. Fantastic place for a pleasant Sunday afternoon with the family.

Ogrod Japonski / Japanese Garden

If you would like to feel for a moment like a proper Ninja or Samurai (or Geisha if you are a  woman), Japanese Garden is the place for you. Its history dates back to 1913 when a great Japanese enthusiast – Fritz von Hochberg built it for Breslau Exposition. Currently it is one of the very few places in Europe where you can find very rare Japanese trees, flowers and other plants. The whole garden has been created according to ancient Japanese gardening tradition. Not only it looks great, but also is a fantastic place for a romantic afternoon together. One of the must-sees of Wroclaw.

Panorama Raclawicka / Panorama of the Battle of Raclawice

ul. Purkyniego 11, Wroclaw
Web: www.panoramaraclawicka.pl

Long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… No! Actually it was not that long ago. Back in the 19th century, a famous artist / painter – Jan Styka called up his friend Wojciech Kossak along with other few painters and they came up with the biggest painting I have ever seen. It is so big, that they had to build a special round building where they stick the painting inside the circumference. The painting is 114 meters long (for people using imperial measurement system it is exactly…very long) and depicts the famous Battle of Raclawice where Kosciuszko led Poles in an uprising against Russian army. The battle was spectacular and so is the painting. Really stunning piece of work, you will not find anything like that anywhere else in Europe (or maybe even in the world). One of the Wroclaw must-sees.

Szczytnicki Park

With the area of about 100ha, Szczytnicki Park is the biggest park in Wroclaw. It is located to the east from the centre within an easy reach from Grunwaldzki square. There are some beautiful flower gardens, children playgrounds and many unique tree species all around.
